Voyage sur la route du Kisokaido : de Hiroshige à Kuniyoshi
This work offers a description of engravings painted between 1835 and 1853 illustrating the 69 stages of Kisokaido.
Between the 17th and 19th centuries, the Kisokaido road linked Edo, present-day Tokyo, and Kyoto, the old capital.
A first series of engravings, produced by Elsen and Hiroshige, evokes landscapes. Then two other series, produced by Kunisada and Kuniyoshi, describe Japanese folklore.
