Absolute Authority
With an upright posture, a distant gaze, and a disdainful expression, the Sun King radiates. Proudly positioned in a monumental sculpture by François Girardon (1699), measuring 7 meters tall, Louis XIV on horseback once commanded the center of Place Vendôme before being toppled during the Revolution in 1792. Reproduced on a smaller scale, the bust has since taken residence in the Louvre Museum. An iconic figure of royalty and French art, Louis XIV now holds court over the Trudon collection of busts.
