La Grande Année is an intense, rich and complex wine with majestic density, each vintage bearing its own distinctive signature. Its incomparable texture and the depth of its aromas make it the ideal partner for fine gastronomy.
Produced only when a harvest reaches perfect balance, this cuvée embodies the art of craftsmanship mastered by the men and women of the House, showcasing an exceptional vintage.
Blend
An exceptional year giving rise to a vibrant and generous wine.
La Grande Année 2018 is a blend of 19 crus, mainly from Verzenay, Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ for the 66% Pinot Noir, and from Chouilly and Cuis for the 34% Chardonnay.
Fermentation is carried out entirely in oak barrels, and maturation takes place under cork stoppers for a cellar ageing time more than twice as long as required by the Appellation regulations. The moderate dosage is 6 grams per litre.
A confidential and memorable experience
In these exceptional years, the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, sourced exclusively from Grand and Premier Cru vineyards of Champagne, are entirely vinified in wood. The selection of the best barrels is then blended and bottled to begin a slow ageing process on lees in the House’s cellars. The bottles of La Grande Année are finally riddled and disgorged by hand, thereby revealing rare complexity and harmony.
Appearance
A robe with golden-yellow highlights, a sign of the wine’s maturity as well as of Bollinger’s winemaking methods.
Nose
An initial nose bursting with the freshness of citrus and Granny Smith apple, lifted by notes of orchard fruits – white peach, apricot and mirabelle plum. As it opens up, fresh almond emerges amid aromas of bread crumb and acacia honey. This aromatic harmony is structured around a beautiful central line where citrus and mineral notes mingle with a delicate touch of white peony.
Palate
A structured and balanced palate revealing notes of stewed fruits and quince. The texture evolves into a gradual mellowness, offering a creamy effervescence.
