Dustin, a weasel, lives in New York with his Russian-origin grandmother, Chana, in a tiny apartment, scraping by with odd jobs much to Chana’s dismay. A devout believer, she decides to visit Pastor Lubansky, a sheep leading a crusade against what she views as the evil embodied in publications for young readers: comics... The pastor's husband hires Dustin for a "respectable" business: a funeral home! Resigned, Dustin nonetheless lands another job at Proper Comics, run by Venables, Pastor Lubansky’s arch-nemesis of the Squadrons of Virtue. Despite the threat of censorship, Venables entrusts him with creating a photo novel.
